Butters & Babies: A Full Circle Rescue Story

Butters & Babies: A Full Circle Rescue Story

Well… this one was definitely not on our bingo card. 👀

Back in January, the sweetest little corgi was surrendered to us with one small detail:
she might be pregnant.

And if she happened to be pregnant… the dad was a German Shepherd.

Reader: she was pregnant.
Very pregnant.

An x-ray confirmed five little passengers.

And just like that, Butters’ story shifted from “new intake” to we’re having puppies… immediately.

When Rescue Gets Real, Fast

This is the part of rescue you can’t plan for. One moment you’re taking in a single dog, the next you’re coordinating a delivery, leaning on your vet team, and figuring out (quickly) how to support a brand new mom and babies who just landed in your care.

Thankfully, we had incredible veterinary support to help guide us through it all, making sure Butters and her babies were safe from the very beginning.

And then came the part that really makes stories like this possible.

A foster stepped up. Not just for one dog, but for a mom and five newborn puppies.

Which means around-the-clock care, constant check-ins, making sure everyone is gaining weight, staying warm, and doing okay.

It’s a lot.

And it’s something that only happens because people are willing to say yes when it matters most.

Why This Story Matters

Stories like this are easy to look at and just see the cute part.

The puppies.
The happy endings.

But what you don’t always see is everything it takes to get there: the quick pivots, the medical care, the fosters, the coordination, the time, the people.

This is rescue.

It’s unpredictable.
It’s layered.
It asks a lot.

And it only works because of the community behind it.

Because of the people who step up, who support, who foster, who adopt — who make it possible for us to say yes, even when we don’t see it coming.

Her puppies — Butterscotch, Balloon, Bambi, Biscuit, and Bubbles — grew quickly for 8 weeks in our care.

We are so happy to share that Butters is now in a loving home.
And so are her babies!

Five little corgi-shepherd mixes are living their very best lives … exactly as they should be.

A Big Thank You

To our veterinary partners.
To the foster who made this possible.
To the families who opened their homes.
To the followers who shared the story on social media.
And to this community who continues to support this work.

This is what rescue looks like.

And this is what happens when we show up, together.
