The Adoption Process

Submit an Application
Start by filling out an adoption application (dog or cat).
Note: Approval does not guarantee a specific animal or place a hold.

Watch Your Inbox
If approved, you’ll hear from us via email within 3 days. Be sure your contact info is accurate so we can reach you!

Pick Your Perfect Match
Once you’re approved, you’ve got a few options:
- Place a deposit to secure the animal of your choice
- Join us at an adoption event
- OR Schedule a private meet & greet at our facility in Sedalia

Make it Official
Is it the right fit? Awesome! Get ready to bring your new best friend home!
If it’s not the right fit after your initial meeting — we’ll work with you to find the best next step and offer a refund if appropriate.
Where Do Our Animals Come From?
Every animal here has a story — and some of them start in some tough conditions.
We partner with overcrowded shelters across the country, especially in areas where euthanasia rates are high due to lack of space and resources.
Many of our dogs and cats come from:
- High-risk shelters
- Owner surrenders
- Abandonment cases
- Commercial breeding facilities
- Stray or neglect situations
Once they arrive at 4P4L, they’re met with veterinary care, compassion, and consistency. We ensure each animal is in the best medical condition possible before adoption — spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and treated for any illness or injury.
Emotionally, some may still be learning to trust — but every day in our care, they receive the love, patience, and structure that helps them feel safe again.
We’re committed to giving our animals a fresh start, so you can feel confident you’re welcoming a pet who’s been truly cared for.

Cookie (now named Peaches) has been doing great! She has adopted tremendously with us, and has grown so much in her behaviors. She used to dislike going outside for walks or car rides, but now gets so excited when her harness/leash comes out.
My husband takes her regularly to a local nursing home to visit his mother and she is quite the little star to the other residents and staff. I also got the chance recently to let her join me at work for the day and she was such an angel and a hit with the other staff.

Miles is doing AMAZING in his transformation since I adopted him! He has gone from 91 lbs to a perfectly healthy 151 lbs! He is a super senior great dane who kicked heart worm’s butt and now acts like a young dog. He loves running, hiking, snuggling with my cats and foster kittens, and he loves to pretend like he is a lap dog. He is truly a gentle giant and is a celebrity in our neighborhood.
What a blessing he has been! THANK YOU 4P4L for giving the most overlooked animals a chance at life. Most rescues wouldn’t pull a super senior great dane who was also heartworm positive and bring him to Colorado. I hope Miles is a testament for others to consider adopting a senior dog (or cat) or a pet who may have some medical needs.

We wanted to share an update on Gideon’s first year with us!
He’s the absolute light of our lives! He’s a sweet, derpy, silly, funny guy with the best smile! He’s the most playful guy – always wanting to play with all dogs, big or small. We go to the dog park and hike a lot so he can make lots of friends and explore!
He also really loves watching birds, bunnies and neighbors from our balcony – he could sit out there all day! At the end of a long day, we snuggle up on the couch together.
We couldn’t imagine life without him!

Thank you for choosing adoption and for opening your heart and home to one of our rescue animals.
Please do not submit an adoption fee until you have been approved for a specific animal by our adoption team.
Your payment directly supports our mission of rescuing, transporting, caring for, and finding loving homes for dogs and cats in need.
