Event Assistant Job Description

$10.00 per hour / 20 – 25 hours per week.

This position is part-time with a potential for full-time in the future. Opportunities for advancement within the organization are available. We are in need of several part-time Event Assistants to provide general care to rescue animals during our adoption events. General duties include keeping cages clean and sanitized; walking, feeding and picking up after the animals; Other duties include customer service, answering questions about the dogs and the application process, setting up and taking down kennels and other miscellaneous duties.

Requirements to Become an Event Assistant

  • Must be able and willing to work weekly events.  ( Fri 12-8pm and Saturdays 9am – 3pm)
  • Must be able and willing to travel to events held at Petco in Lakewood.
  • Must live in the near vicinity of the workplace (under 30 minutes using your method of transportation).
  • Practical experience working with animals is an asset.
  • Confident in handling animals.
  • Have a passion for helping rescue animals.
  • Work well in a team environment.
  • Be physically fit.
  • Be reliable and punctual.
  • Have excellent customer service skills.
  • Some positions require assistance with transportation to and from the event.  A valid Driver’s License and own vehicle will be considered an asset but not mandatory for all positions.

General Duties of an Event Assistant

  • Answer customer enquiries about available pets and adoption process.
  • Ensure customers complete all required paperwork.
  • Feed and water the pets, when required.
  • Walk dogs in kennels throughout the events.
  • Be able to lift and move kennels, sometimes heavy.
  • Maintain clean and sanitary kennels throughout the event.
  • Be compassionate and patient with all animals in our care.
  • Record vaccinations for adopted pets and provide all other necessary paperwork for adopters.
  • On the job training will be provided.

Educational requirements

  • A high school diploma and/or equivalent experience is required.

Kennel Assistant Job Description

$10.00 per hour / 20 – 25 hours per week.

There may be other opportunities within the organization for the right candidate.

We are in need of a part time assistant flexible to work mornings and afternoons, any day of the week in our kennel facility. General duties include keeping kennels clean and sanitized; feeding and medicating animals as required, greeting customers, invoicing and collecting payment for boarding and grooming services. Additional admin duties are also required.

Requirements to Become a Kennel Assistant

  • Must be able and willing to work morning and afternoon shifts, any day of the week.
  • Must live in the near vicinity of the workplace (under 30 minutes using your method of transportation).
  • Previous experience performing animal care activities is desirable.  Note: An individual may still qualify if they have a combination of education, experience and/or training that can provide the level of knowledge, skills and ability required for this position.
  • Confident in handling animals.
  • Be a compassionate and patient person.
  • Work well on your own.
  • Have strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks that include but are not limited to climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, crawling, holding and lifting.
  • Be reliable and punctual at all times.
  • Valid Driver’s License and own vehicle will be considered an asset.
  • Must live nearby (Littleton or Lakewood).

Duties of a Kennel Assistant

  • Clean out kennels and runs to maintain a high level of sanitary standards.
  • Following cleaning, feeding and watering protocols to maintain the health of the animals.
  • Responsible for ensuring the checklist items are done on a daily basis as assigned.
  • Administer prescribed medications, where necessary.
  • Exercise dogs in a yard and/or take them for walks.
  • Communicating any observed animal health and/or behavioral changes to the Animal Care Manager. (i.e. energy levels, eating patterns, ensuring the animal has a regular and healthy elimination.)
  • Send periodic ‘Report Cards’ on our guests to customers.
  • Complete daily revenue reports and next day arrivals/departures log, as well as grooming appointments.
  • Be compassionate and patient with all animals in our care.
  • Wash dishes related to the animals after each feeding.
  • Laundry duties related (i.e. washing dog towels and blankets).
  • Maintaining animal/cleaning supplies inventory by notifying management to replenish stock with adequate notice.
  • Other duties as requested.

Educational requirements

  • Graduation from a high school or the equivalent (GED) is required.
