The owner of two sweet fufus died and they were surrendered to the local shelter. Both were Heartworm positive.
Scheduled to be euthanized, the HEART TO HEART Program enabled us to provide them both with foster care and medication. The program continued to pay for their medication, even after they were in their forever homes, until they were well again.
A months worth of heartworm preventative and antibiotic is $30/month and their immiticide injections are $250 each.
The medication is costly but with your donations, we can help more of these unfortunate dogs and get them treated and into forever homes.
A program dedicated to raising awareness and funds for the adoption and treatment of heartworm positive dogs. Heartworms is not contagious from dog to dog and is a very treatable condition, and after only a few short months of treatment dogs can be cured and live a long, healthy, and active life. The biggest obstacle is the cost. 4 Paws 4 Life is dedicated to saving as many of these otherwise healthy and wonderful dogs as we can, and covers the full cost of treatment for our heartworm positive dogs, which can range anywhere from $500-$1500, whether they are in a foster home or a forever home.
In many shelters, testing positive for heartworms is a death sentence. 4 Paws 4 Life believes that every dog deserves a chance at life, and therefore we are one of only a few Colorado based rescues who will pull heartworm positive dogs off of death row and bring them here to Colorado where we get them the treatment they need to live long and healthy lives.
In order to save more of these innocent animals, we need your help. Treatment is excruciatingly expensive for a small non-profit, and we are therefore limited in the number of dogs we are able to treat and save. Even small donations can add up and go a long way towards helping us save even more.
- $100 Pays for a 6 month cycle of antibiotics for 1 heartworm positive dog
- $70 Pays for 6 months of heartworm Preventative medication for 1 heart worm positive dog
- An average of $600 pays for the full treatment of 1 heartworm positive dog
If you can’t donate, but still want to help, please spread the word to your friends and family. The more awareness raised about these dogs, the better their chances of living the long lives they deserve.
If you have a quiet home and would like to foster a dog through all or part of their treatment, please consider filling out a foster application. If you have questions about fostering a heart worm positive dog, please email Foster@4P4L.org.
Thank you for all your help and support to try to save as many of these furry friends as possible!
