Before Adoption FAQs

While you are welcome to bring your dog to pickup, please know that they are usually a very stressful situation for the dogs in our care and for your current pet.  There’s lots of movement and noise which can sometimes agitate the available dogs in their crates.

We suggest that when adding a new member to your pack that you follow these guidelines.

  1. Introduce the dogs on neutral ground away from stress and distraction.  A green space, dog park, or other such place that isn’t a place your current dog frequents.
  2. Before introduction, make sure both dogs have had plenty of exercise.
  3. Allow the dogs to meet on leash first.

We would love for you to share photos and videos of your new pet with us!

share photos/videosDid you know that the image on our home page is always an image submitted by an adopter of one of our rescue pups? Take a look www.4p4l.org.

Our rescue is unique in that we have foster families all over the country.  We keep them in the loop through those adopters who choose to share photos and videos on social media.  This has proven to be the best way for adopters and fosters to start their first communication.  You are welcome to upload directly to our public Facebook timeline but the best place to share is via our Private “Adopters of 4P4L” group.  You’ll find encouragement and many of our fosters in this group.

In a perfect world, none of our adoptable dogs or cats would ever get sick.  Sadly, that’s just not the case.  While we make every effort to ensure their wellness with vaccinations and sanitary housing conditions, we cannot make any guarantees.

If you notice any signs or symptoms of illness immediately after adoption, please email Tina at tina@4p4l.org. She will contact you in a timely manner.  Some signs to watch for are lethargy, vomiting,  excessive diarrhea, not eating/drinking.  For life-threatening emergencies only, please call (303) 921-7586 and leave a message.  The voicemail is monitored frequently.  We will only respond to emergencies.

If at pickup you find that you and your new pet aren’t a good match, you can choose to apply your donation to another dog in our care or accept a full refund.

Once you take possession of the dog/pup, then there are no refunds. No exceptions.

Where can I access my new pet’s records?

We have partnered with a company named Petstablished/Bissell Pet Network to manage our animal’s medical charts and files.  When you apply for adoption, you are actually creating a sign-in for Petstablished.  After adoption, you’ll use the same sign in to see files and vaccine information about your new pet.  Also, on your congratulatory email, you’ll see a button for accessing records.  If you have trouble, please reach out to Petstablished at support@petstablished.com
